Preliminary Test

An approximate value of the ignition temperature of the test item was first determined by a preliminary test. The table below summarizes the results of the preliminary test. An “ignition” is indicated as “+” and “no ignition” as “-“. 5 drops were added into the Erlenmeyer flask at each temperature.

Based on results of the main test series, the lowest autoignition temperature was 311 °C.

Regulation EC No. 440/2008 and DIN 51794: The auto-ignition temperature rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5°C was determined as 310°C.

Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 Part A A.15 to determine the auto-ignition temperature of the test substance. In a preliminary test the approximately auto-ignition temperature was determined. For the main test three test series were conducted. The temperature determined in the preliminary test was used as starting point for the main test. The temperature was decreased by 5 K until no ignition was observed. The test was repeated with slighter temperature steps to determine the auto-ignition temperature more accurate. Based on results of the main test series, the lowest auto-ignition temperature was 311°C. All three values lay within a range of 20 K. According to criteria as laid down in DIN 51794 the auto ignition temperature is the lowest value out of three experiments rounded down to a whole multiple of 5°C. Therefore the auto-ignition temperature was stated to be 310°C.
