Description of key information

Appearance (Color, Physical State and Odor)

The physical state of the test substance was determined by visual inspection at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The colour was compared against the Munsell Book ofcolourat room temperature and atmospheric pressure in a mixture of artificial and natural light.Odourwas not determined directly due to health and safety rules; however if any strong characteristicodourwas noted while handling the test substance this was recorded. The test substance was a viscous, opaque, blue-green liquid, with aMunsellreference: 7.5 BG 2/6. No odour was noted.

 

Melting/Freezing Point

The freezing point of the test substance was <-20°C. No endotherms characteristic of a melting temperature were recorded on either test, therefore the melting temperature is <-60°C. An exothermic reaction followed by an endothermic reaction; 126.06 to 238.05°C (test 1) and 118.16 to 237.33°C (test 2), mean 122 to 238°C. Decomposition was deemed to commence at 122°C. The onset temperatures of the thermograms were 190 and 216°C. The test was performed to the standardised guideline OECD 102.

 

Boiling Point

An exothermic reaction followed by an endothermic reaction; 126.06 to 238.05°C (test 1) and 118.16 to 237.33°C (test 2), mean 122 to 238°C. Decomposition was deemed to commence at 140°C. The onset temperatures of the thermograms were 190 and 216°C. The test was performed to the standardised guideline OECD 103.

 

Density

The density of the test substance was 1.132 g/cm^3 at 21°C. The relative density (D_4^20) was 1.132. The test was performed to the standardised guideline OECD 109.

 

Particle Size

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.

 

Vapour Pressure

The vapour pessure of the test item has been determined to be 0.0027 Pa at 20°C and 0.0045 Pa at 25°C. The test was performed to the standardised guideline OECD 104.

 

Partition Coefficient

Under the conditions of the study, the partition coefficient of the test material was determined to be Log Pow 5.84. The test was performed to the standardised guideline OECD 123.

 

Water Solubility

Under the conditions of the study, the water solubility of the test material was determined to be 0.05 µg/mL of solution at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C, using the flask method, designed to be compatible with Method 105 of the OECD Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals. EPI suite software calculated values: WSKOW method: 2.381 x 10^-17 mg/L at 25°C and WATERNT method: 9.9508 x 10^-7 mg/L at 25°C.

 

Surface Tension

The study does not need to be conducted because water solubility is below 1 mg/mL at 20°C.

 

Flash Point

The atmospheric pressure at the time of testing was 98.9 kPa. The certified standard gave a flash point of 74.6°C corrected for atmospheric pressure. The preliminary test gave no flash point up to 110°C. Therefore two definitive tests were performed at 110°C and both gave no flash point at 110°C, 110.6°C when corrected for atmospheric pressure. Therefore the flash point of the test substance is >110°C. The test was performed to the standardised guideline 440/2008 A.9.

 

Auto Flammability

Under the conditions of the study, the test material was 224 ± 4°C. The test was performed to the standardised guideline 440/2008 A.21.

 

Flammability

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid.

 

Explosiveness

The DSC analysis gave a small exotherm followed by a small endotherm, broadly similar to that in the melting point test. The exotherm had an onset temperature of 201.07°C and an energy of 17.69 J/g. This energy is well below 500 J/g so would suggest that the test substance does not show explosive properties. During the test fumes were evolved along with a burning odour. The test substance started as a dark green liquid and after the test the pan was found to have a blue/green substance on part of the surface. This substance is not explosive. The test was performed to the standardised guideline 440/2008 A.14.

 

Oxidising Properties

The test substance did not exhibit oxidising properties. The test was performed to the standardised guideline 440/2008 A.21.
