Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Reaction Products of C4 alcohols and C4 alkenes obtained as by-products from the manufacturing of butan-2-ol by sulfuric acid esterification and hydrolysis of butene was found to be not readily biodegradable in an OECD 301 headspace test, although it should be recognized that standard biodegradation methods are of limited value for volatile and complex streams. A review of the biodegradability of the major constituents of the stream suggests that di-sec-butyl ethers are the most persistent components. It has been shown to be not readily biodegradable QSAR prediction (BIOWIN v4.1). Given the potential persistence of di-sec-butyl ethers and the result of the OECD 301 screening study for the whole stream, Reaction Products of C4 alcohols and C4 alkenes obtained as by-products from the manufacturing of butan-2-ol by sulfuric acid esterification and hydrolysis of butene, cannot be considered to be readily biodegradable.
