Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
A decomposition process at approximately 220 °C is assumed. A clear normal boiling point, as defined in the guideline with a current stream of bubbles evolving from the capillary, was not observed.
In conclusion, for (2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA) no boiling point according to the criteria described in the guideline could be observed up to 400 °C. The atmospheric pressure was 99.08 kPa.

Title:

(2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA): Determination of the Boiling Point

Purpose:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the boiling point of (2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA) by the capillary method using an electronic controlled heating system.

Guidelines/Recommendations

This study was based on the procedures indicated by the following internationally accepted methods:

-Commission Regulation (EC) No.440/2008 laying down test methods pursuant to Regulation (EC) No.1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) (originally published as Council Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, corrigendum according to Official Journal of the European Union (EN) dated June 3, 2008, L 143/55), Annex, Part A, A.2.: “Boiling Temperature”, Official Journal of the European Union, L 142, Volume 51, 31 May 2008

-Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Guidelines for Testing of Chemicals, Guideline No.103, “Boiling Point”, adopted July 27, 1995

-Product Properties Test Guideline OPPTS 830.7220 of the United States Environment Protection Agency (EPA), August 1996

Results:

The determination of the boiling point was performed by visual judgement using the capillary. At about 200 °C to 265 in the preliminary tests, the colour changing to black was observed and the test item melted. To confirm the results from the preliminary tests, the test was performed three times with the new sample and with the heating rate of 0.5 °C/min; start temperatures were: 215 °C, 220 °C and 225 °C and end temperature was 265°C. Due to this observation, a decomposition process at approximately 220 °C is assumed. A clear normal boiling point, as defined in the guideline with a current stream of bubbles evolving from the capillary, was not observed.

Conclusion: In conclusion, for (2Z)-2-Fluor-3-(morpholin-4-yl)acrylaldehyd (FMA) no boiling point according to the criteria described in the guideline could be observed up to 400 °C. The atmospheric pressure was 99.08 kPa. This study is classified acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirements for boiling point studies.
