Additional information

One study, investigating the short-term toxicity to freshwater fish for Pentaerythritol tetraesters of n-decanoic, n-heptanoic, n-octanoic and n-valeric acids (CAS 68424-31-7), was used as read across for Fatty acids, C5-10 (linear and branched), tetraesters with pentaerythritol. This substance is structurally and compositionally related Fatty acids, C5-10 (linear and branched), tetraesters with pentaerythritol. The semi-static study (Combert and Caunter, 1991) with Salmo gairdneri equivalent or similar to OECD 203 determined LC50 (96 h) > 1000 mg/L (nominal). No mortality was observed within the tested concentration (1000 mg/L nominal) during 96 h exposure. As the test material did not dissolved completely in the dilution water, the tested concentration demonstrated a worst case. Due to the low water solubility of the test substance (< 1 mg/L), no toxicity was observed in the range of water solubility of the read across substance. In an IUCLID dataset of 2-ethylhexanoic acid (CAS 149-57-5, European commission, European Chemicals Bureau, 2000), which is the most critical component, also no toxicity is demonstrated for freshwater fish (Salmo gairdneri respectively Lepomis gibbosus, 1979) (LC0 (96 h) = 125 - 160 mg/L, LC50 (96 h) = 180 - 270 mg/L). Based on the results of the analogue substances, it can be concluded that no toxicological effects on freshwater fish are expected for Fatty acids, C5-10 (linear and branched), tetraesters with pentaerythritol.
