Additional information

Lemongrass oil (Cymbopogon flexuosus) is a Natural Complex Substance, a mixture consisting of slightly soluble to soluble constituents. The volume is 1-10 tonnes/year, therefore no PNEC is derived and no Hazard assessment or PBT assessment is conducted.

Conclusion on classification

For lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus) oil, studies for two trophic levels for acute toxicity are available. The lowest observed ecotoxicity value is 4.2 mg/L in a 48h-EL50 from a Daphnia WAF study read-across from Litsea cubeba. The test substance lemongrass oil was shown to be readily biodegradable. Over 9.1% of the constituents of lemongrass oil has an estimated log Kow >4. No measured data on BCF is available for lemongrass oil.

Therefore according to Regulation 1272/2008/EC (CLP) lemongrass oil is classified as hazardous to the aquatic environment Chronic Category 2 (H411).
