BAM Fallhammer Test

The sample of the test material was observed to exhibit no reaction at 40 J. The test result is therefore considered Negative.

BAM Friction Test

The sample of test material was observed to exhibit no reaction at 360 N. The test result is therefore considered Negative

* ‘’ denotes 3 or more fragments.

‘X’ denotes fewer than 3 fragments.

On the first, third and sixth tests the steel tube split, releasing sufficient gaseous material that the four bunsen burners were extinguished.

The sample did not exhibit an explosion during any of the tests. The test result is therefore considered Negative.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the study, the test material was determined to be non-explosive.
Executive summary:

The explosive potential of the test material was investigated in a GLP study in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.14.

Three tests were conducted in order to investigate the explosivity of the test material; the BAM Fallhammer, BAM Friction and Koenen Tube tests.

For the BAM Fallhammer test, the sample was placed in the impact device and the 10 kg weight dropped from a height of 40 cm, which is equivalent to 40 J. The sample of test material was observed to exhibit no reaction at 40 J and is therefore considered negative.

For the BAM Friction test, the sample was placed on the porcelain plate and the peg lowered. A load of 360 N was then applied and the switch operated. The sample of test material was observed to exhibit no reaction at 360 N and is therefore considered negative.

For the Koenen Tube test, a series of three tests with a 6.0 mm diameter orifice plate was first performed, followed by a second series of three tests performed with a 2.0 mm diameter orifice plate. The sample did not exhibit an explosion during any of the tests.

The results of the tests using all three methods were negative and therefore under the conditions of the study, the test material was determined to be non-explosive.

Description of key information

Under the conditions of the study, the test material was determined to be  non-explosive.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The explosive potential of the test material was investigated in a GLP study in accordance with the standardised guideline EU Method A.14. The study was assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria for assessing data quality set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to explosivity.
