First-aid measures

General Advice:

First-aid responders should wear protective gloves and in case of spillages respiratory protection. Remove victims from danger zone. Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose them off.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical advice.

On skin contact:

Wipe of, wash immediately with polyethylene glycol if available, followed by plenty of water. Consult a medical doctor in case of skin irritation persists.

On contact with eyes:

Immeadiately wash affected eyes with plenty of lukewarm water (at least 10 minutes) with eyelids held open. Consult eye specialist.

If swallowed:

Immediately rinse mouth with water, do not induce vomiting, seek medical attention.

Note to the physician:

Product irritates the respiratory system and is a potential trigger for skin and respiratory system sensitization. the therapy of the acute irritation and bronchial stenosis is primarily symptomatical. Depending on the extent of exposure and the severity of symptoms, a long term medical attendance might become necessary.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

dry extinguishng media, carbon dioxide, foam, water spray

unsuitable: full water jet

During fire, carbon dioxid, carbon monoxid, nitrogen oxides, isocyanate vapours and traces of hydrogen cyanide might evolve. Do not breath fumes.

During a surrounding fire buildup of pressure possible. Danger of bursting. Cool containers and remove them if possible out of the danger area.

During fire fighting respiratory protection with independend air supply and sealed, chemical resistant inherent body protection required.

Fire water contaminated with this material must be contained and prevented from being discharged to any waterway, sewer or drain.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Personal precautions: No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Avoid breathing vapor or mist. Provide adequate ventilation. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment

Environmental precautions:

Avoid dispersal of spilled material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers.

Cleaning methods:

Remove mechanically. Cover residual amounts with absorbent material (e.g. sand, saw dust, chemical absorbers made of calcium silicate) for 1 hour and dispose off the material. Do not seal waste containers (CO2 evolution). Keep humid outdoors on a secure area.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Provide suitable exhaust ventilation at the processing machines. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work area. Avoid aerosol formation. Wear respiratory protection when handling heated product or while spraying. Protect against moisture. Danger of bursting if contaminated with water and sealed gastight. Products freshly manufactured from isocyanates can contain incompletely reacted isocyanates and other dangerous substances.  Completely cured polyurethanes (24 h after production) can generally be handled without PPE. Avoid the contact with skin and eyes as well as the breathing of vapours.

Storage:

Store in dry, well-ventilated store-room in tightly closed drums and containers. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabelled containers.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Components with workplace control parameters:

CAS-No.: 91-08-7: toluene-2,6-diisocyanate.

MK value (max. concentration): 0,035 mg/m3

CAS-No.: 584-84-9: 4-methyl-m-phenylene diisocyanate

MK value (max. concentration): 0,035 mg/m3

Personal protective equipment:

respiratory protection:

In case of unsuficient ventilation or spray application, respiratory protection equipment is stipulated. filter for organic gases with particle filter, at least A2P2 (EN 143 or 149)

hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374).

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (recommended: protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):

fluoro rubber (FBR) - 0.4 mm coating thickness

butyl rubber (butyl) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

recommendation: dispose contaminated gloves off

Eye protection:

Safety glasses with side-shieleds (frame goggles) (e.g. EN 166), face shield

Body protection:

wear suitable protective clothings

General safety and hygiene measures:

Do not breath vapours/spray. With products freshly manufatured from isocyanates body protection and chemical resistant protective gloves is recommended. Wearing of closed work clothing is required and additionally to the stated personal protective equipent. Keep away from drink, food and animal feeding stuffs. No eating, drinking, smoking or tobacco use at the place of work. Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Hands and face should be washed before breaks and at the end of shift. At the end of the shift the skin should be cleaned and skin-care agents applied.

Stability and reactivity

Dangerios reactions: exothermic reactions with amines and alcoholes, CO2 evolution on contact with water, in sealed containers increase of pressure, danger of bursting

Thermal decomposition: 200 °C (polymerisation, CO2 evolution)

Hazardous decomposition products:

No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Disposal considerations

Product residues anduncleaned empty containers should be packaged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of or recycled according to relevant national and local regulations. For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste List (EWL) should be used.

ncinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

This product and any uncleaned containers must be disposed of as hazardous waste.

Waste key: 08 05 01

Contaminated packaging:

contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; than it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
