Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2017
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Qualifier:
no guideline required
Version / remarks:
State of substance is just a visual assessment of the material. THere is no guideline for this end point
GLP compliance:
no
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Thetawet FS-8250 is a 28% actives aqueous emulsion, water dispersible, low foam anionic fluorosurfactant
The active components are ammonium salts of [Mono & Di] 2-(Perfluorohexyl)ethyl-Phosphate. Found at ca. 10% and 18% respectively in the final product.
The substance is not possible to isolate from water and if attempted, there is decomposition with a loss of ammonia. The substance is also functionally surface active, forming emulsions in water and oil
Lot number: w17061205
Manufacturing date: 6/12/2017
Manufacturing Location 103 Walnut Grove Road, Cartersville, GA 30120 QC data are as follows:
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
liquid
Remarks:
This substance is only stable in aqueous solution
Key result
Form:
liquid - liquid: emulsion
Remarks:
This substance is only stable in aqueous solution
Colour:
Off-white
Odour:
slight
Substance type:
organic

The slight odour comes from the equilibria of ammonium salts whicharea function of the counterion, pH, and ambient conditions.

While ammonia is volatile (bpt – 33 deg. C) and much lighter than air (0.54relative density),if the product is dried, the dryingprocess will drive off water and ammonia. As ammonia is lost in the process, more and more of the free acid is formed. The final dried product will be a mixture of the ammonium salt and the free acid

Description of key information

The substance is not possible to isolate from water and if attempted, there is decomposition with a loss of ammonia. A description of the chemistry relating to the equilibrium behaviour between the two species in this substance is appended to this end point.

The substance is also functionally surface active, forming emulsions in water and oil

Key value for chemical safety assessment
