Biodegradation in water:
readily biodegradable

Additional information

In a GLP-conform key study according to guideline OECD 301B, the biodegradability of the test substance has been determined. The test substance showed 79% biodegradation after 28 days, demonstrating the potential of the test substance for rapid biodegradation. The 10-day window was marginally missed, which might be due to the nature of the substance as an UVCB, containing different isomers. The half-life of the test substance has been estimated to be <15 days. Regarding to the guidance document R.16, a half-live of 15 days is considered for substances, which are classified to be readily biodegradable.

A supporting study, conducted also according to guideline OECD301B, showed a mean biodegradation of 49%, demonstrating the potential of the test substance for biodegradation, although the criteria for readily biodegradation was not met. In this test, the substance degradation curve resulted in a plateau, indicating that a certain amount of the test substance might have not been bioavailable during the study.

Regarding to the CLP regulation No. 1272/2008, the 10-window for UVCB substances or complex, multi-constituent substances can be waived and the pass level can be applied at 28 days. Based on the key study, 79% biodegradation of the test substance has been detected. Therefore, the substance has been classified to be readily biodegradable.
