Description of key information

One reliable (Klimisch 1) toxicity study for aquatic algae was available for Behenyl Bottoms. The toxicity of Behenyl Bottoms to Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata was reported by Cartee et al. (2009) in an OECD 201 guideline and GLP compliant study. Algae was exposed to the test substance in measured concentrations for 72 hours, resulting in a 72-hr EC50 of >100 mg/L, based on growth, cell density and yield. The 72-hr NOEC, based on growth rate, was >100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of Behenyl Bottoms, characterized as Alcohols, C18-22, distillation residues, to aquatic algae and bacteria has been evaluated for this dossier. One reliable (Klimisch 1) toxicity study for aquatic algae was available for Behenyl Bottoms. The toxicity of Behenyl Bottoms to Pseudokirchnerella subcapitata was reported by Cartee et al.
