Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

INHALATION

Remove the subject from the contaminated area to a well-ventilated site. If the subject has respiratory diseases, trained personnel should administer oxygen. If the subject doesn’t breathe, trained personnel should practice artificial respiration (ATTENTION: do not make mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, because the product is corrosive by ingestion). If the subject is unconscious, make him assisted respiration (oxygen therapy). If symptoms occurs, admission for observation. Seek immediately medical advice.

CONTACT WITH EYES

In case of contact with eyes, wash immediately with fresh water keeping eyelids well opened for at least 15 minutes. Seek immediately medical advice.

CONTACT WITH SKIN

Take off immediately contaminated clothing, avoid contact with product. Bring contaminated subject under emergency showers. Wash contaminated areas delicately with plenty of water and soap. Take care of fold, dehiscence and nails cleaning. Seek immediately medical advice.

INGESTION

DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Check if the product is present in the mouth. If the subject is conscious, make him rinse mouth with fresh water. Do not give him anything by mouth if the subject is unconscious. Seek immediately medical advice.

NOTE FOR THE DOCTOR: In case of ingestion, inhalation, contact with eyes or skin, treat the patient in symptomatically way and maintain physiologic equilibrium.

Fire-fighting measures

Appropriate extinction means: CO2, foam, powders. In case of big fire, blow down fumes with water spray.

Inappropriate extinction means: Direct water jets on product.

Particular risks: Toxic fumes (HCl, CO) and halogen compounds development.

Protective measures in case of intervention: Keep away all unnecessary personnel.

Only skilled personnel and those well-informed about the product hazards can intervene. In case of intervention, wear self-breathing apparatus.

In case of intervention near the  source, wear fully protective anti-acid overalls.

Further precautions: If possible, keep away containers exposed to heat, otherwise cool them with plenty of water.

Accidental release measures

Individual and general precautions: Send away untrained personnel. In case of intervention, wear personal protective equipment described in section 8. Keep away all heat and ignition sources.

Cleaning methods:

If there are no risks, stop leakage. Do not put water into tanks. Do not touch leakage. If materials is solid, use mechanical measures to put product into adequate container. If the product is liquid, collect it with sawdust, sand or other absorbent material and put into adequate container. Wash residual traces of product with water, avoiding product entering into water courses or sewage. If product has entered into sewage or water courses or has contaminated soil or vegetation, advice competent authorities. Label the containers.

Handling and storage

Handling:

Do not swallow, breathe vapours; avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of insufficient ventilation, wear self-breathing apparatus. If you feel unwell, seek immediately medical advice and where possible show the label.

Storage:

Keep in tightly closed containers, dry. Keep away from incompatible materials (oxidisers, not noble metals, amines and alcohols). Keep away from heat and ignition sources.

Further precautions:

Keep container well closed, in fresh and well-ventilated sites.

Inform personnel about product hazards.

Provide emergency showers near storage areas. Do not keep the product in piping tracts and/or in circuits delimited by two closed valves or in containers without safety gas vent.

Exposure controls / personal protection

THRESHOLD LIMIT VALUE:  NOT DEFINED

Technical measures:Sites aeration.

If emission or decomposition risk exists, provide adequate local aspiration. Avoid moisture and high temperatures.

Respiratory protection: Mask equipped with filter for organic substances.

Hands protection: Wear PVC gloves. Neoprene gloves can be used for short time.

Eyes protection: Wear sealed goggles/face shield against chemical hazards.

Skin protection: Fully protective clothing. PVC Overall/boots against chemical hazard.

Specific sanitary measures: Showers and eye-washes.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: No thermal decomposition when storing and handling correctly.

Conditions to be avoided: in presence of water and heat, on iron, at temperature more than 50°C, the product may decompose. Violent hydrolysis reaction if mixed with sulphuric acid with more than >50% concentration.

Substances to be avoided: keep away from water, not noble metals, amines and alcohols.

Harmful decomposition product: CO, CO2, HF, HCl

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment:

Dispose of the product in chemical incinerators equipped with post-combustion chambers and scrubbers.

Packing/containers treatment:

Wash the containers with plenty of water, avoiding fumes or vapours inhalation, and deal with the effluent like waste. The empty and cleaned containers can be reused, recycled or disposed of according to local/national rules in force.
