Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the flash point of amides, C8 -18 and C18 -unsatd., N,N-bis(hydroxyethyl) in accordance with ISO 2719 and EU method A.9 using standard Pensky-Martens closed cup method at the ambient barometric pressure and corrected to standard atmospheric pressure. The flash point of amides, C8 -18 and C18 -unsatd., N,N-bis(hydroxyethyl) was found to be 100.5 ºC at 101.3 kPa.

Description of key information

The flash point was determined using a non-equilibrium closed cup method according to ASTM 6450-99, equivalent to EU Method A.9 (Carrillo, 2009) and in accordance with ISO Method 2719 and EU Method A.9 using a standard Pensky-Martens closed cup method (Frączak and Chmielewska, 2010).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
188 °C

Additional information

The flash point was determined to be:

- 188°C (Carrillo, 2009)

- 100°C (Frączak and Chmielewska, 2010)

Based on expert judgement, the value of 188°C was considered as most representative of the test substance.
