Description of key information

FAT 40850/A TE is considered not acute toxic to aquatic freshwater green algae. However, the substance had a negative impact on the growth rate and biomass yield of green algae after exposure for 72 hours.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute aquatic toxicity of the test item FAT 40850/A TE was tested in a valid GLP study according to EU Method C.3 by exposing the freshwater green algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata for 72 hours in a static toxicity test.

A series of nominal concentrations of 0, 1, 3.2, 10, 32 and 100 mg/L was tested. The samples from the nominal test concentrations of 1.0 and 3.2 mg/L were not analyzed, since these concentrations were below the NOEC determined in this test. For the higher concentrations, 7.1, 29 and 98 mg/L were measured at the end of the study period of 3 days.

A slight negative impact on the growth rate of green algae was seen at the nominal concentration of 100 mg/L (EC50 and EC10 values >100 mg/L, respectively). The negative impact on biomass yield was stronger and the corresponding EC50 value was >100 mg/L and the EC10 value was 32 mg/L.
