Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Due to decomposition, the test item yielded slightly different decomposition products every time when heated. This led to strong variations in the flash point. For safety reasons, the flash point is given as the lowest value of the four determinations.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
closed cup

Any other information on results incl. tables

Four independent determinations were performed.

The results of determinations are presented in the following table.

 Experiment  Flash point (°C)
 1  178.5
 2  156.5
 3  170.5
 4  176.5

The test item showed decomposition. No reliable duplicate determination could be performed. After performing five determinations, it was concluded that differing values would be found in every repetition due to the decomposition of the test item, yielding slightly different products every time. For safety reasons, the flash point is given as the lowest value of the four determinations. The flash point of B 1061 is therefore stated as 156.5 °C.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Executive summary:

The Flash Point Tester PMA 4 following Pensky-Martens, FA Petrotest.

Four independent determinations were performed. The results of the determinations are presented in the table.

No verification of the flash point was possible due to decomposition of the test item B 1061. For safety reasons, the lowest value of the four experiments is given as flash point.

Flash point of B 1061 ist therefore stated as 156.5 °C (429.7 K).
