Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Effects on fertility

Additional information
Short description of key information:
No reproduction toxicity data are available for the reaction mass of sodium iodide, sodium sulfate and sodium chloride. However, for the single components (sodium iodide, CAS 7681-82-5; sodium sulfate, CAS 7757-82-6; sodium chloride, CAS 7647-14-5) toxicity data are existent and the respective substances are already registered.

Effects on developmental toxicity

Description of key information
No developmental toxicity data are available for the reaction mass of sodium iodide, sodium sulfate and sodium chloride. However, for the single components (sodium iodide, CAS 7681-82-5; sodium sulfate, CAS 7757-82-6; sodium chloride, CAS 7647-14-5) toxicity data are existent and the respective substances are already registered.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification regarding reproduction toxicity is known for sodium sulfate and sodium chloride. The pharmacological and toxicological mode of action of sodium iodide is determined by iodine. Adverse effects of iodine on the embryofetal development were reported in humans. However, this was not due to a specific embryotoxic mode of action but due to decompensation of physiological processess in the mother and the embryo/fetus. Therefore, sodium iodide was classified by Bayer HealthCare in 2011 with Repr. Cat. 3, R63 and R64 according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Repr. 2, H361d and Lact., H362 according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).

Since more then 3% of sodium iodide are contained in the reaction mass of sodium iodide, sodium sulfate and sodium chloride also the reaction mass has to be classified with Repr. Cat. 3, R63 and R64 or Repr. 2, H361d and Lact., H362, respectively.
