Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

By analogy with one of its constituent (i.e. cerium dioxide), reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride should not show any adverse acute effect on terrestrial plants.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No data is available on the reaction mass. Based on the physico-chemical, environmental and ecotoxicological data available on both the reaction mass and its constituents, the substances show highly similar intrinsic properties. Therefore, a read-across with constituents when data are not available on the reaction mass appears fully relevant.

One experimental study, scored as Klimisch 2 and flagged as a key study, is available on cerium dioxide (Hooftman & Henzen, 1996). It reveals that cerium dioxide is not harmful to terrestrial plants. The results of this study can be used to conclude on the acute toxicity of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride to terrestrial plants without launching further tests.
