Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The 48-hour EL50 (Daphnia magna) of reaction mass of cerium dioxide and lanthanum oxide and lanthanum fluoride is > 100 mg/L based on the mobility; revealing it is not harmful for the daphnids.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant study, scored as Klimisch 1 and flagged as a key study, is available on the reaction mass; giving a 48h-EL50 > 100 mg/L and revealing that the reaction mass is not harmful to Daphnia magna (Bätscher, 2008).

Experimental studies, scored as Klimisch 2, are available on cerium dioxide (Bätscher, 2007) and lanthanum oxide (Seyfried, 2007) and also report no acute toxicity on daphnids. For cerium dioxide, this result is further support by bibliographical data of reliability 2 (Park et al., 2007) and 4 (Van Hoecke et al., 2007; Gaiser et al., 2007); giving the same conclusions. All these data on the two constituents were thus selecting as supporting studies.
