Description of key information
Due to its main constitutents phenol and bisphenol-A, this substance has to be considered as 'non flammable'.

The flammability of this substance is mainly determined by its main constituent phenol with a concentration of approx. 40 wt%. The flammability of the other main constituent Bisphenol-A does not need to be considered as Bisphenol-A is classified as not readily combustible solid. This substance is only handled in liquid form and is not handled as solid.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The authors of the REACH registration dossier come to the conclusion that phenol is not flammable.
Information on the flammability of phenol is presented in the EU-RAR (2006) in section1.3 (physico-chemical properties). Moreover according to REACH Regulation (Annex XI, 1.), a study does not need to be done if based on the available data the substance can be classified, labelled and/or the risk of the substance can be assessed. The experience in the use and testing for other REACH endpoints showed that the substance does not ignite spontaneously (not pyrophoric) in air or react violently with water and therefore testing according to EC Methods A.12 and A.13 is not scientifically necessary.
