Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The dissociation constant of the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide is not determined as the reaction mass is hydrolytically unstable. Instead, information on the relevant degradation products has been included.

Additional information

The dissociation constant of the reaction mass of magnesium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, magnesium oxide and magnesium peroxide is not determined as the reaction mass is hydrolytically unstable. Instead, information on the relevant degradation products has been included.

The literature value available for the dissociation constant of hydrogen peroxide at 25 °C is:

pKa = 11.62.

Magnesium hydroxide has a very low solubility in water (1.78 x 10^-3 g total solids/L) and any Magnesium hydroxide dissolved is dissociated completely. The low water solubility hampers the determination of the dissociation constant.
