Description of key information

The 96 hr ErC50 value for green algae exposed to three main components of the reaction mass, , n-hexane (CAS No. 110-54-3), cyclohexane (CAS No. 110-82-7), and 4-vinylcyclohexene (CAS No. 100-40-3) ranged from 1.83 mg/L to >4.425 mg/L. For the remaining main component, toluene (CAS No. 108-88-3), a 3 hr EC50 value for reduced photosynthesis of 134 mg/L was measured.

Reliable experimental studies were available for two of the main components of the reaction mass; cyclohexane (Exxon Biomedical Science, Inc.1998: 96 hr ErC50 > 4.425 mg/L) and toluene (Hutchinson et al, 1980: 3 hr EC50 based on reduced photosynthesis 134 mg/L).

In the absence of reliable experimental studies the short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates for the two remaining main components, were predicted using the QSAR model ECOWIN v1 ECOSAR Classes for Microsoft Windows. The model predicted 96 hr ErC50 values of 2.77 mg/L for n-hexane and 1.83 mg/L for 4-vinylcyclohexene.
