Reaction mass of stearoylbenzoylmethane and palmitoylbenzoylmethane was tested according to OECD 225 guideline, in order to evaluate the chronic toxicity of this substance to the sediment dweller Lumbriculus variegatus.

No mortality was observed at the highest concentration tested during the exposure (1000 mg/kg sediment d.w., equivalent to 900 mg/kg sediment d.w., mean measured concentration).

No EC50 were found on the following end-points : reproduction and biomass.

The test results are the following one :

- EC50 (28days) mortality : > 900 mg/kg d.w.

- Reproduction : 28d-NOEC = 113 mg/kg d.w., 28d-LOEC = 225 mg/kg d.w.

- Biomass : 28d-NOEC = 450 mg/kg d.w., 28d-LOEC = 900 mg/kg d.w. and 28d-EC10 = 616 mg/kg d.w.

Effects were observed on the reproduction and biomass in this chronic toxicity sediment test. The reproduction is the most sensitive endpoint studied.

However, the substance tested "Reaction mass of stearoylbenzoylmethane and palmitoylbenzoylmethane" cannot be considered as harmful for the sediment organisms tested.
