Reaction mass of DIPE and 2-methylpent-2-ene

is a yellow liquid with a low viscosity of 0.384 mPa * s at 20 °C and a density of 0.72 g/cm3 at 20°C. The substance melts at < -80 °C and boils at 56 - 83 °C. The vapour pressure is 12'794 Pa at 20 °C and 15'519 Pa at 25 °C. The solubility in water is 2.83 g/L at 20°C. The log Pow of the main components was found to be in the range 2.4 - 4.3 with an estimated overall range of 0 - 4.3 including hydrophilic impurities. The substance is not surface active.

The flash point is -0.8 °C and the autoflammability temperature is 365°C at standard pressure. Reaction mass of DIPE and 2-methylpent-2-ene

is highly flammable, but not explosive.

Based on the properties of the reaction mass and the chemical structure of the different components the reaction mass does not possess oxidising properties and does not dissociate in water. Similar to DIPE and other ethers, reaction mass of DIPE and 2-methylpent-2-ene may produce explosive peroxides.
