Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Test material

Constituent 1
Reference substance name:
propylene oxide
IUPAC Name:
propylene oxide
Constituent 2
Reference substance name:
Methyloxirane
EC Number:
200-879-2
EC Name:
Methyloxirane
Cas Number:
75-56-9
IUPAC Name:
2-methyloxirane
Details on test material:
Test material was racemate from both R(+) and S(-) propylene oxide. This endpoint is not measured / determined with enantio-selective sensors.
Therefore the R(+) value is identical to the racemate endpoint.

Any other information on results incl. tables

Of the cited studies, only the ARCO Chemical Company (1975, see citations in report) provided actual measured data and details of the method of measurement. Therefore these values, 1.85 - 36.25, are the ones used in this assessment.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The flamability of liquids is assessed by reference to the flash point (Section 7.9). There is no indication on the basis of structure and experience in handling and the use that the substance is flammable in contact with air or water. The substance is classified R12 (Extremely Flammable) according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Flammable Liquid Category 1 (H224: Extremely flammable liquid and vapour) according to Regulation 1272/2008. This is on the basis of a flash point of -40°C and a boiling point of 34.1°C.
