Description of key information

In a soil degradation study conducted at a temperature of 25 ºC, Flumetsulam degraded to 50% of the amount applied originally within 93, 23, 60, and 102 days for soil from Illinois, Georgia, Ohio and Minnesota, respectively. However, subsequent rates were slower for material remaining after the initial loss. Accountability of activity throughout the study was near 100% for all soils.

Additional information

Flumetsulam degrades in soil to carbon dioxide and fragments that become incorporated into soil organic matter. During this process no intermediate breakdown products of flumetsulam accumulate to significant levels. Degradation of flumetsulam does not obey first order over the entire life of chemical in soil, but does approximate it for the first half-life. Rates of degradation based on initial rate vary among soils from being rapid to moderate in speed.
