Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

General information: Remove contaminated, saturated clothing immediately. If unconscious place in recovery position and seek medical advice. First aider: Pay attention to self-protection! Remove affected person from the danger area and lay down.
Following inhalation:Remove casualty to fresh air and keep warm and at rest. If breathing is irregular or stopped, administer artificial respiration. In case of inhaling spray mist, consult a physician.
In case of skin contact: After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water and soap.
After eye contact: In case of contact with eyes flush immediately with plenty of flowing water for 10 to 15 minutes holding eyelids apart and consult an ophthalmologist.
After ingestion: If accidentally swallowed rinse the mouth with plenty of water (only if the person is conscious) and obtain immediate medical attention. Do NOT induce vomiting. Observe risk of aspiration if vomiting occurs.
Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed: Headache , Dizziness , Nausea , Vomiting , Drowsiness , Unconsciousness Pulmonary irritation , Cough , Respiratory complaints

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2) , Foam , Water mist , Extinguishing powder
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture: In case of fire may be liberated: Carbon dioxide (CO2) , Carbon monoxide
Advice for firefighters: Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing. Collect contaminated fire extinguishing water separately. Do not allow entering drains or surface water.

Accidental release measures

For non-emergency personnel: Remove all sources of ignition. Provide adequate ventilation. Use personal protection equipment.
For emergency responders:
Eye/face protection: goggles.
Skin protection: When handling with chemical substances, protective clothing with CE-labels including the four control digits must be worn. Required properties : flame-retardant , antistatic. Draw up and observe skin protection programme.
Hand protection: Tested protective gloves must be worn . The quality of the protective gloves resistant to chemicals must be chosen as a function of the specific working place concentration and quantity of hazardous substances. For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves.
Respiratory protection: If technical exhaust or ventilation measures are not possible or insufficient, respiratory protection must be worn. Suitable respiratory protection apparatus : dust mask.

Environmental precautions: Do not allow to enter into surface water or drains. Do not allow to enter into soil/subsoil.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
For containment: Cover drains. Prevent spread over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers).
For cleaning up: Take up mechanically, placing in appropriate containers for disposal. Use appropriate respiratory protection. Wear personal protection equipment.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: All work processes must always be designed so that the following is excluded: Inhalation of dust/particles , Skin contact , Eye contact . Provide adequate ventilation as well as local exhaustion at critical locations. Keep away from sources of ignition. - No smoking. Only wear fitting, comfortable and clean protective clothing. Wash hands and face before breaks and after work and take a shower if necessary. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. When using do not eat, drink, smoke, sniff. Immediately remove any contaminated clothing, shoes or stockings. In the immediate working surroundings there must be : Emergency shower installed . Provide eye shower and label its location conspicuously .

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Store in a place accessible by authorized persons only. Only use the material in places where open light, fire and other flammable sources can be kept away.

Hints on joint storage: Storage class (TRGS 510) : 11

Exposure controls / personal protection

Normal operation:
Workers must use PPE as a good practice to minimise possible exposures from minor accidental leaks during loading and unloading the reaction vessel. Procedures are implemented for disposal or cleaning of contaminated PPE.

Accident and incidents: As fully trained Emergency Response Team (ERT) must be in place to react in case of accidents and incidents resulting in unexpected releases of the intermediate in order to minimize risks of exposures to humans and the environment.
Maintenance and cleaning: Workers must use additional PPE for cleaning the reaction vessel. A short exposure may occur during a maintenance operation, involving opening of a section of the pipeline connecting the reactor with loading station due to accidental presence of a residue of diluted intermediate that may lead to skin exposure. As a result, workers must be given a specific work instruction on how to open this section, and are required to use high-efficiency PPE for skin and respiratory protection, as a precautionary and protective measure during all maintenance work, where there is a potential for exposure. PPE type must specified in the permit-to-work documents. Procedures must be in place for disposal or cleaning of contaminated PPE, as appropriate.
