Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2263 sheet 1
Deviations:
not specified
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The procedure is very close to that described in VDI 2263 sheet 1 for determination of the combustibility index (burning rate).
The substance is deposited on a heated ceramic plate forming a rectangular pile of 4 by 2 cm. The sample is ignited at the smaller base by a glowing platinum wire or a small flame. Meltable products can be mixed with Kieselgur. The combustibility of the product is rated from 1 (=no ignition) to 6 (=very rapid combustion with flame propargation). From 1 - 3 no spreading of fire is observed.
In case the combustibility index is >3 the burning rate is tested by measuring the velocity of a combustion zone propargating along an unbroken strip or a powder train about 250 mm long by 20 mm wide by 10 mm high on a non-combustible, non-porous and low hat-conducting base plate.
A powder is considered as highly flammable when the time to propargate 10 cm is less than 45 sec.
GLP compliance:
no

Ignition on contact with air refers to either Pyrophoric solids or Pyrophoric liquids depending on physical state (migrated information).
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.
Substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Remarks on result:
no reaction with water observed
Remarks:
corresponding to 'no' in migrated source record.

Any other information on results incl. tables

When using a flame or a hot platinum wire as ignition source the product did not show any reaction but was only melting.

The product did not show any propargation of the flame, therefore combustion number 1 is assigned.

A determination of burning is not required in this case

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The burning behaviour of the substance has to be characterised with Combustion Number 1 (no ignition, no spreading of flame).
Classificationin class 4.1 as combustible solid is not required.
