Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Supply fresh air; consult doctor in case of complaints.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water.
Call a doctor immediately.
Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing immediately.

Immediately wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly.
Cover wound with a sterile dressing.

Immediate medical treatment necessary. Failure to treat
burns can prevent wounds from healing.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: A person vomiting while laying on their back should be
turned onto their side. Do not induce vomiting.

Drink plenty of water and provide fresh air. Call for a
doctor immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry sand.

Extinguishing powder. Do not use water.

Product arising from burning: Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Metal oxide fume.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Wear protective equipment.

Wear self-contained respiratory protective device.

Do not inhale explosion gases or combustion gases.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Remove all sources of ignition. Use only spark-proof tools.
Provide safe (explosion-proof) ventilation.

Do not allow to enter sewers/ surface or ground water.

Take up spilt material immediately (e. g. by using an
approved industrial vacuum cleaner). Carefully transfer the
spilt material to waste containers which must be tightly
closed and labelled according to TRGS 201.

Dispose of according to local regulations.

Do not flush with water or aqueous cleansing agents.

While taking up the spilt material and cleaning the polluted
area avoid skin and eye contact as well as inhalation of the
substance by wearing appropriate personal protective equip-
ment (see section 'Handling').

Handling and storage

Handling: All working methods should always be designed so that inha-
lation of the substance as well as skin and eye contact are
avoided.

Where possible, use closed equipment during filling, trans-
fer, metered feeding, and sampling.

In the case of handling the substance in open systems,
extract any dust (or vapours or aerosols) which might form,
safely (in an explosion-proof manner) directly at the point
of origin.

If technical extraction or ventilation measures are not pos-
sible or are insufficient, suitable respiratory protection
(e. g. :::) should be worn.

To avoid skin contact, tested protective gloves (e. g. :::)
and, if applicable, suitable protective clothing (e. g. :::)
should be worn.

The wearing of eye protection (e.g. safety goggles) is re-
commended.

The product is highly flammable.

Dust (or fumes) can combine with air to form an explosive
mixture.

Protect against electrostatic discharges.

Keep ignition sources away - Do not smoke.

Storage: Store the substance in the original packing drums or other
secure containers which are labelled according to the regu-
lations. Keep them tightly closed and dry. Secure them
against falling by taking the appropriate measures.

Avoid residues on the outside of the containers.

Store them in a cool and well ventilated area.

Store away from oxidizing agents.

Do not store together with alkalis (caustic solutions) or
acids.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Store only in the original container.

The PG I was choosen as a precaution, even the substance
does not meet the criteria to be pyrophoric (A.13), but is
auto-flammable at room temperature.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical reaction with water: Reacts violently with water, liberating extremly flammable
gases.

Dust explosion: Formation of explosive atmospheres caused by dust can cause
because of intrinsic properties of the substance.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Because of the properties of the methyl aluminium oxide, the
substance and all mixutres containing the substance have to
be handled under strictly contained conditions. The
substance reacts immediately with water to undergo a
hydrolysis reaction resulting in products like aluminum
oxide. A reuse is not appropriate based on the physical
properties of the subtance.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: The substance reacts immediately with water to undergo a
hydrolysis reaction resulting in products like aluminum
