Reference
Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Experiment start and end date - 06 July 2006; Study completion date - 06 September 2006.
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.8 (Partition Coefficient)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Due to its very good solubility in water but very poor in n-octanol of the test material, both OECD guideline test 107 and 117 are not applicable. Thus, the partition coefficient was estimated using the solubility data in n-octanol and the water as stipulated by EU method A.8.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Identity: FAT 40827/A
Batch: T2 5572 BOP 01/06
Purity: determined in this study
Appearance: black sticky powder
Expiration date: 28.02.2011
Storage: at room temperature
Analytical method:
high-performance liquid chromatography
Type:
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
< -5.4
Temp.:
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: The test was performed under room temperature (ca. 25 deg. C), but the pH value was not reported.
Details on results:
The solubility in n-octanol was found to be lower than 1.2696 mg/L while the water solubility is greater than 306 g/L, therefore logPow is estimated to be lower than -5.4.
Conclusions:
The logPow of FAT 40827/A was found to be: < - 5.4.
Executive summary:

Neither the HPLC-method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 nor the flask-shaking method according to OECD Guideline No. 107 were applicable for the determination of the partition coefficient of FAT 40827/A. Thus, the log Pow-value for the test item was estimated from its solubility in n-octanol and in water, respectively.

In the present study, the n-octanol solubility of FAT 40827/A was determined to be below the lowest calibration point of 0.6348 µg/ml multiplied by the dilution factor of 2. In conclusion, the partition coefficient, log Pow of FAT 40827/A was calculated from the individual solubility in n-octanol and in water, respectively, to be: < -5.4
