Description of key information

ErC50 (72 h) > 0.01 mg/L (measured concentration) based on growth rate (OECD 201). No effects up to the limit of water solubility (< 0.02 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of 2 -Hexyl-2 '-hydroxy-5 'methyldecananilide (AF-654) to algae was determined in a study by de Roode (2004). This test was conducted according to the EU Method C.2 and OECD Guideline 201 under GLP conditions. During the study, two limit tests were performed under static conditions. Algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, former Selenastrum capricornutum) were exposed for 72 hours to a filtered solution prepared at 100 mg/L nominal concentration A verification of test concentration was performed by HPLC analysis. No mortality or other adverse effects were observed at the end of the exposure period. Therefore, an ErC50 value could not be calculated and it is considered to be > 0.01 mg/L on growth rate (measured concentration). In addition, an ErC50 > 100 mg/L based on the nominal test concentration of the test substance in a filtered solution is assumed and reported in the study summary.

In conclusion, AF-654 was not toxic to algae under the tested conditions. No effects of the substance are expected up to the water solubility limit of the test substance (<0.02 mg/L).
