Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air.  If respiratory distress symptoms

appear, seek medical attention. If not breathing, administer

artificial respiration.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with clean water for at least 15 minutes.

Retract eyelids.  Seek immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing.  Flush exposed area with large

amounts of water.  If skin is damaged, or symptoms persist,

seek immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.  Do not induce vomiting or give

anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Carbon dioxide, dry chemical, foam, water fog.

Product arising from burning: May form oxides of carbon and various hydrocarbons.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Full protection by suitable clothing and positive pressure

breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing and eliminate all ignition

sources.  Absorb liquid material on vermiculite, floor

absorbent or other absorbent material and transfer to

suitable containers for disposal by incinerationl.  Wash

down contaminated areas with plenty of water, using

containment to avoid washings reaching drains or surface

waters.

Handling and storage

Handling: Protective clothing, goggles or safety glasses and gloves

should be worn when working with the material.  When using

the commercial preparation in styrene, also use

solvent-resistant (e.g. PVA) gloves and work only in

well-ventilated areas; respiratory protection will also be

required if the TLV workplace exposure limits for styrene

are approached or exceeded.

Storage: Store at ambient temperature, protected from moisture.

Commercial preparation in styrene should be stored only in

well-ventilated areas away from oxidising agents or ignition

sources (including static discharges).

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Sealed, unbreakable containers.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Under fire conditions, rapid polymerisation within closed

containers may cause them to rupture violently.

Chemical reaction with water: None known.

Dust explosion: None expected.  Even in solid/semi-solid form will not yield

mobile particles likely to create dust.

Dust explosion determined by test: N
