Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical

advice (show the safety data sheet if possible).

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of water

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon, nitrogen and

sulphur oxides together with some soot. Suitable

extinguishing agents are water and foam.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear protective clothing, collect spill by mechanical means

and place in labelled containers. Contaminated product must

be destroyed by incineration. Prevent the substance from

entering drainage systems.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid exposure. Ensure filling places have efficient local

exhaust ventilation (air must be filtered) A dust mask,

gloves and eye protection should be used (as minimum

protection). Use only when desensitised. If necessary, wear

a full face mask respirator.

Storage: Store in closed but not sealed containers under cool

conditions.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: No reaction with water. However, in aqueous solution the

substance is light sensitive and decomposes to nitrogen,

phenol and salicylic acid.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance cannot be recycled

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The explosive properties may be removed by desensitisation.

The other hazardous properties may be removed by photolysis

of aqueous solutions.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Recommended method, waste gas treatment to remove sulphur

and nitrogen oxides should be used.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from coated paper is not possible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable at concentration used (95% of substance

decomposed by developer, 5% forms an azo dye).

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Paper containing the substance maybe disposed of as

household waste.
