Emergency measure - Inhalation: Move person to fresh air. Get medical attention as soon as
possible
Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash immediately with large amounts of water. Get immediate
medical attention if irritation occurs.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash immediately with water. Remove contaminated clothing.
Get medical attention if irritation develops. Wash clothing
before reuse.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Administer water. Get IMMEDIATE medical attention. DO NOT
INDUCE VOMITING. Symptomatic treatment.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Use dry chemicals, halon, foam, carbon dioxide or
water-spray.
Product arising from burning: The material, when heated, may decompose evolving hydrogen
chloride, hydrogen fluoride and organic halides.

Protective equipment: Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and full
protective equipment.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: Keep open flames and sparks away. Contain release or spill
by dyke to prevent flow to sewers or streams. Pump into
metal containers for disposal or reclamation. Soak up small
spills with absorbent material and place in loosely-covered
containers for disposal. Neutralise spill with soda ash then
wash down area with water.
Handling and storage
Handling: Provide good room ventilation to minimise exposure. Use an
approved organic vapour acid-gas type canister. Wear safety
glasses. Eye wash facilities should be in close proximity.
Storage: Keep containers tightly sealed. Store in a cool place out of
contact with sources of ignition and oxidisers. Dyke bulk
storage tank separately to contain 110% of tank volume. Seal
bulk storage vessels to protect against the entry of
atmospheric moisture. Earth equipment to avoid static
charges.

Danger other than fire: Reacts with oxidising agents, concentrated sulphuric acid
and concentrated sodium hydroxide.
Chemical reaction with water: No reaction with water.

Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery of the substance from minor spillages or accidental
discharges to effluent is not possible.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Substance may be neutralised with soda ash.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: On dilution to a concentration of 0.4 mg/l or lower it is
possible to discharge the substance to water courses.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Burning under carefully controlled conditions will render
the substance harmless. Hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride
and organic halides may be formed and should be removed from
the effluent gas.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The possibility for adverse effects is on either aerobic or
anaerobic processes at sewage works is not known. It is
unlikely to be removed by sorption on to sludge.
Accumulation is unlikely as the substance is very volatile.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will not enter the public domain.
