First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with water.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with soap and water.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon, nitrogen and
sulphur oxides together with hydrogen chloride gas and
soot. A self-contained breathing apparatus should be used.
Suitable extinguishing agents are water, carbon dioxide,
foam and dry powder.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Powder: Collect in a suitable manner (eg sweeping, vacuum
cleaner) and dump in accordance with local regulations.
Solutions: Wash spillages of solutions with copious
quantities of water and discharge in accordance with
local/national regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: The usual precautions for handling chemicals should be
observed. Avoid dust formation during filling of drums. If
dust is formed, use respiratory equipment if ventilation is
not adequate. Wear protective clothing and gloves.

Storage: No special precautions. Store in sealed containers in
adequate rooms.

polyethylene bags in sealed steel drums.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Hydrolysis in aqueous solutions, under the influence of
acid or base, at temperatures above 30 deg C occurs. The
hydrolysis results in exchange of chlorine by hydroxide.
