Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Due to the complex UVCB-compositions, an appropriate study including analytical monitoring is technically not feasible.
However, considering individual constituents, it can be assumed that the substance will bioaccumulate to a minor or moderate extent.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

As the substance is a complex UVCB of long-chain (C-chain-length >=18) organic components, such as fatty alcohols, diols and wax ester, neither an appropriate analytical method is available, nor could it be developed for conducting a bioconcentration study, e.g. according to OECD guideline 305. Considering the main constituent octadecan-1-ol, a BCF of 1501 L/kg wet weight has been calculated using the BCFBAF-module (version 3.0) of EpiSuite4.0, while the module calculates lower BCF for molecules with longer C-chains, e.g. tetracosanol (CAS 506-51-4: BCF = 54.03 L/kg wet weight) or Lanolin wax (CAS 68200-49-0: BCF = 7.48 L/kg wet weight). This module is expected to give more realistic predictions of the bioaccumulation properties than predicting the BCF solely on the logPow, as the BCFBAF-module takes into account biotransformation and excretion via metabolisation.
