Administrative data

First-aid measures

- In case of contact with the eyes: rinse immediately with copious amounts of water during at least 15 minutes. Make sure that the eyes are well rinsed by separating the eyelids using fingers.
- In case of skin irritation: wash immediately with soap and water during at least 15 minutes. If the irritation persists, seek medical attention.
- In case of inhalation: go outside to breathe fresh air – keep calm – and seek for medical attention in case the person does not feel well.
- In case of ingestion: rinse the mouth with water.

Fire-fighting measures

Non-flammable.
Extinguishing means: use the appropriate extinguishing agents according to the surroundings. Inappropriate means for safety reasons: none.
Specific hazards due to the substance, to its combustion products or to the gas released: none.
Protection equipment: the relief personnel must use the approved protection equipment for the material surrounding the fire.

Accidental release measures

- Prevent the dispersion and flow of spilled material.
- Avoid the creation of dusts and prevent the dispersion due to wind or drafts.
- If possible, collect the product in order to recycle it by using a vacuum cleaner.

Handling and storage

- Store the product in a closed container, in a cool and dry place.
- Avoid creating dusty conditions.
- Avoid the inhalation and contact with skin and eyes by wearing personal protective equipment.
- In its crystal form (called ruby), the product is fragile: it is recommended to avoid shocks and impacts.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Exposure limit values: considered as dusts
France: Maximum values for exposure (MVE) = 10 mg/m3 (total dust).
Germany: 10 mg/m3 (inhalable dust) and 3 mg/m3 (breathable dust).
Great Britain: 10 mg/m3 (inhalable dust) and 4 mg/m3 (breathable dust).

Exposure control
- make sure that the work station is well ventilated or well vacuumed.
- avoid labour practices which create dust.
- avoid inhalation and exposure to particles which penetrate the eyes.

Personal protective equipment
Unnecessary when used under recommended operating conditions.
Respiratory protection: in case of generation of dusts, use a protective equipment such as dustproof masks (type P2 or P3).

Eye protection: use protective eyewear when the product is manipulated.

Skin protection: use appropriate gloves and clothes to manipulate the product.

Stability and reactivity

Product is stable and inert when used under normal operating, storing and transporting conditions.

Disposal considerations

- Dispose of the waste and residues in accordance with local regulations.
- Waste is not considered dangerous in accordance with the decree n°2002-540 published on the 18th of April 2002 relating to the classification of dangerous waste.
