Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No reliable data are available for the effect of synthetic rutile on terrestrial arthropods and read-across to upgraded ilmenites (UGI) is used. Reliable results are available for the effect of different upgraded ilmenite (UGI, >80% TiO2) slags to survival and reproduction of the terrestrial arthropod Folsomia candida. No firm conclusion on the terrestrial toxicity of the different UGI products can be drawn due to the heterogeneous nature of the UGI products. The largest effect was observed for the UGI Exxaro SO4, this test yielded a chronic NOEC of 1,000 mg/kg dw and a chronic LOEC of 3,000 mg/kg dw.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Long-term EC10, LC10 or NOEC for soil dwelling arthropods:
1 000 mg/kg soil dw
