First-aid measures

EYE CONTACT:       Flush with water at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists.

SKIN CONTACT: Remove contaminated clothing and at the same time   cleaning skin as much as possible with absorbent material, then irrigate thoroughly with water, wash skin with plenty of water and soap. If irritation persists seek medical advice.

INGESTION: Do not induce vomiting. Drink plenty of water and seek medical help.

INHALATION: Remove to fresh air. For breathing difficulties oxygen may be necessary. Seek medical assistance.

Fire-fighting measures

FLASH POINT:                     >210°C (COC)

SUITABLE EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use water spray, foam, carbon dioxide, dry sand, dry earth or dry chemical powder to extinguish flames. It depends of size fire.

UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: None. Very low fire hazard. This material is not explosive.

HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: If this material is near of a fire, it can burn and form flammable mixtures or can burn only upon heating to high temperatures, above its flash point.

Toxic gases will form upon combustion such as carbon oxides and sulfur oxides.

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Use water spray to cool fire exposed containers, pipelines and structures.

If during firefighting  this material is spilled and the water is present, product  will behave as an oil and will  float on the surface.

SPECIAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR FIRE-FIGHTERS: Protective clothing and self contained breathing equipment should be available for fire-men.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS:

-Wear personal protective equipment.

-Take care with slippery floors.

- Remove all sources of ignition.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS:

-Prevent further leakage of spillage if safe to do so.

-Prevent entry to sewers or ground, drains, etc.

METHODS FOR CLEANING: Contain spill to a small area. Pick up with absorbent material and   transfer to a suitable container for disposal.

If not contaminated scoop up for re-use. If contaminated, shovel into drums or containers for disposal.

Handling and storage

PRECAUTIONS IN HANDLING AND STORING:  Store in carbon steel containers. Protect from moisture. Keep containers tightly closed. Keep away from heat open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

This product adsorbs strongly to soil and sediments.

HANDLING TEMPERATURE: Do not overheat. Avoid high skin temperatures. Normal temperatures for transfer and blending operations 60-80 ºC

OTHER PRECAUTIONS: Even though the fire hazard is very low, it would not hurt to take caution and  use proper grounding procedures. Potential accumulation of static electricity may be present when transferring this product.

INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS: Strong oxidizing agents, such as chlorates, nitrates and peroxides.

Exposure controls / personal protection

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Under normal handling it is not necessary, but only in case of fire or burning, wear respirator where overexposure by inhalation may occur.

VENTILATION: Normal protective measures for organics with flash points > 100ºC

HAND PROTECTION: Chemical and oil resistant gloves.

EYE PROTECTION:  Safety glasses.

SKIN PROTECTION: Only wear cotton clothing as normal.

INGESTION PROTECTION: When handling, do not eat, drink or smoke.

Stability and reactivity

REACTIVITY:       May react with acids and strong oxidizing agents, such as chlorates, nitrates and peroxides.

STABILITY:  Stable.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Only in case of fire will be form sulfur oxides from combustion.

HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATIONS:  Will not occur.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID: Do not overheat. Avoid high skin temperatures. Normal temperatures for transfer and blending operations 60-80 ºC

MATERIALS TO AVOID:  Avoid strong oxidizing agents.

Disposal considerations

Waste disposal: Product is suitable for burning in an enclosed controlled burner for fuel value or disposal by supervised incineration. If during handling the product has been mixture with others compounds then dispose of according to local, state and federal regulations.
