In a GLP-compliant, guideline study performed according to OECD guideline 203 with the analogue rosin, fumarated fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) were exposed under static conditions to solutions prepared as Water Accommodated Fractions (WAF) at different loading rates up to a maximum loading rate of 1000 mg/L (Inveresk Research, 2000). As no mortality or other effects were observed in the test fish during the study, the 96 h LL50 was > 1000 mg/L, the highest loading rate tested. The No Observed Effect Loading Rate (NOELr) was 1000 mg/L, under the conditions of the test. Due to the structural and chemical-physical similarities, the results could also be expected for resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, compds. with triethanolamine.

A product containing 30% resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, compds. with triethanolamine was tested in a study conducted in accordance with ÖNORM M 6263 (Koller-Kreime and Kohl, 1990). The information in this report is limited and considered not sufficient to allow definite conclusions. Concentrations of the product ranging from 1 to 50 mg/L nominal load were tested with Oncorhynchus mykiss for 48 h. Based on observed mortality the 48h-EC50 was estimated to be 25 mg/L (8.3 mg/L as active).

The available data on resin acids and rosin acids, fumarated, compds. with triethanolamine itself and data on the analogue rosin, fumarated show that all LC50 values were found above the water solubility of < 1 mg/L. The selected value of 8.3 mg/L (nominal) represents a worst case estimation
