short-term toxicity to fish
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because a long-term aquatic toxicity study on fish is proposed to be conducted

Description of key information

A new study does not need to be conducted because a long-term study o fish is proposed to be conducted.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A new study does not need to be conducted because a long-term study o fish is proposed to be conducted. Nevertheless, an acute study on fish is available to support the assessment of this endpoint. The fish short-term toxicity of alcohols C13 -15 -branched and linear was examined in a study performed according to DIN 38412, part 15 (BASF SE, 1988). In this study, the 96 -hour LC50 in freshwater fish (L. idus ) was determined to lie between 5000 mg/L (0% mortality) and 10000 mg/L (100% mortality) based on nominal concentrations. The geometric mean LC50 is calculated to be 7071 mg/L. Although no specific measures were taken to account for the low water solubility, the absence of effects at 5000 mg/L is considered to be a sign of no toxicity up to the limit of water solubility. At the 10000 mg/L test concentration the observed effects are very likely to be due to the presence of undissolved test material.
