o-cresol - freshwater

The acute toxicity of o-cresol to Daphnia pulex was determined in a static immobilization test (, 1978). The test was carried out in analogy to a Dutch standard method which is similar to OECD 202. In 3 laboratories duplicate samples with each 25 individuals of <1 day old daphnids were exposed to the test solutions. Analytical confirmation of exposure levels was not performed. After an exposure period of 48 h a nominal EC50 of 9.6 mg/L was found on Daphnia pulex.

 

m-cresol - freshwater

The acute toxicity of m-cresol to Daphnia pulicaria was determined in an experiment under flow-through conditions (DeGraeve, 1980). Analytical monitoring was performed. Based on measured concentrations a 48h-EC50 > 99.5 mg/L was determined.

 

p-cresol – freshwater

The short term toxicity of p-cresol to the freshwater invertebrate Daphnia magna was measured according to German Guideline DIN 38412 part 11. The 48-h EC50 was 7.7 mg/L (Kuehn et al. 1989).

 

m-cresol and p-cresol – marine water

The toxicity of p-cresol and m-cresol to the freshly fertilized eggs of the marine sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis was determined by a static test. For p-cresol the 96 -h EC50 was 5 mg/L and for m-cresol the 96-h EC50 was 30 mg/L (Falk-Petersen et al. 1985).
