Reported statistics and error estimates:
Effect concentrations were calculated using probit method. A t-test was performed to obtain to EC0.

After 0, 24, 48 and 72 hours samples were taken from nominal concentrations of 7.76 mg/L, 37.6 mg/ and 182 mg/L (according to the base analysis which yielded in 186 mg TOC/g product: 1.44, 6.99 and 33.85 mg TOC/L, respectively). Mean measured concentrations were 1.42, 6.5 and 28.4 mg TOC/L. The mean substance recovery was 91.9 % of the nominal values, therefore the nominal concentrations were taken into account for the calculation of the EC-values.

Additional information

No studies investigating the toxicity of l-Glutamic acid, N-coco acyl derivs., disodium salts (CAS No. 68187-30-4) to algae are available. Thus, available data for the source substance l-Glutamic acid, N-coco acyl derivs., monosodium salts (CAS No. 68187-32-6) was used in a read across approach. The read across is considered valid as both substances are structurally identical (solely differing in the degree of deprotonation being di- and monosodium salts, respectively), which assume very similar physico-chemical properties resulting in identical environmental behavior and ecotoxicity.

The read across key study was performed according to GLP and OECD guideline 201 using Scenedesmus subspicatus as test organism (Cognis, 2001). A 29.6 % solution of the substance in water was tested. Nominal concentrations between 3.53 and 400 mg/L (based on test material) were tested over a period of 72 h. The 72h-EC50 (based on active matter) is determined to be 32.56 mg/L and the 72h-NOEC is determined to be 11.25 mg/L. Due to the very high structural similarity, this result can also be considered for l-Glutamic acid, N-coco acyl derivs., disodium salts (CAS No. 68187-30-4).
