Description of key information

Based on the results of an O.E.C.D. 404 Testing Guideline GLP study Vinyl Neodecanoate is not an irritant to rabbit skin and is not Classified and Labeled as a skin irritant. The Weight-of-Evidence from two rabbit eye irritation studies demonstrated that Vinyl Neodecanoate is not an eye irritant.

Additional information

Vinyl Neodecanoate is not irritating to the skin based on the findings of an O.E.C.D. 404 Skin Irritation study conducted according to the GLP regulations and EU Directives 67/548/EEC and 1272/2008 CLP. The results of a rabbit eye irritation study conducted in 1964 suggested that Vinyl Neodecanoate was a slight irritant. However, a rabbit eye irritation study conducted in 1977 found evidence of eye irritation in only one of four animals. This irritation had cleared within 24 hours of treatment. Therefore, Vinyl Neodecanoate is not a rabbit eye irritant for Classification and Labelling pirposes (EU Directives 67/548/EEC and 1272/2008 CLP). Vinyl Neodecanoate is not a respiratory irritant based on the findings from a 90 -day subchronic inhalation study (See IUCLID 5 Section 7.5).

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on laboratory animal data and the criteria established by Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, Vinyl Neodecanoate is not an eye or skin irritant.
