Administrative data

First-aid measures

General information: Immediately remove all contaminated clothing and footwear.

Inhalation: Move the person away from the contaminated area. Make the affected person rest. Obtain medical attention.

Eye contact: Rinse immediately opened eye(s) thoroughly for several minutes (at least 15 minutes) with water. Always obtain medical advice immediately, even if there are no symptoms.

Skin contact: Wash immediately and thoroughly with soap and water. In case of inflammation (redness, irritation, ...) obtain medical attention.

Ingestion : NEVER attempt to induce vomiting.  Rinse mouth out with water.  If necessary seek medical advice

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable : All extinguishing agents can be used (water, foam, powders, carbon dioxide, sand).

Not suitable : None to our knowledge. If there is a fire close by, use suitable extinguishing agents.

Specific hazards: On heating, after complete evaporation of water may partially decompose, releasing combustible gases (phosphine).

Specific fire fighting methods : Do NOT attempt to fight the fire without suitable protective equipment. Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray.  .

Evacuate the personnel away from the fumes.

Do not breathe fumes.

Protection of fire-fighters: Complete protective clothing. Use sfelf-contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Prevent the product from spreading into the environment. .  If spillage occurs on the public highway, indicate the danger and notify the authorities (police, fire brigade). - full protective clothing and equipment.

Environmental precautions: Contain the spilled material by bunding. Avoid direct discharge into drains.

Personal protective equipment: acid-resistant protective clothing; eye/face protection (safety glasses + visor); appropriate long gloves.

Methods for cleaning up

- Recovery : Recover as much of the product as possible. Absorb the product onto porous material. Transfer the product into a spare container: - suitably labelled. Then take the emergency containers to an area reserved for subsequent recycling or disposal.

- Neutralization : If pH requires neutralize with : - calcium hydroxide. - sodium bicarbonate. Absorb spillage with: - diatomaceous earth- sand or inert absorbent.

- Cleaning/Decontamination : Wash non-recoverable remainder with large amounts of water.

Do NOT discharge into drains. Dispose of all contaminated materials in accordance with current regulations.  Place in an appropriate container and dispose of the contaminated material at a licensed site.

Handling and storage

HANDLING

Technical measures:  Only use materials resistant to acids.

Safe handling advice : Handle and use in accordance with good occupational and hygiene practice.

Carefully comply with the instructions for use. Do not mix with incompatible materials (oxidizers, strong bases).

STORAGE

Technical Measures : Take all necessary precautions to avoid the accidental release of the product outisde due to the rupture of containers or transfer systems.  Ensure there is a suitable retention system.  Storage facilities should be dry.

STORAGE CONDITIONS

Recommended: Store away from incompatible materials; in a cool, dry area

Incompatible products: Alkalis and caustic products. Oxidizing materials.

PACKAGING MATERIALS

Recommended : Acid resistant material, (polyethylene, polypropylene) high density.

Not suitable: Metals

Further information : This product is corrosive to metals. Keep the packaging tightly closed when not in use.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Engineering measures : No specific measures are required provided the product is handled in accordance with the general rules of occupational hygiene and safety.

Personal protective equipment:

Wear suitable clothing. Wear impermeable protective gloves – chemical resistant and compliant with Standard EN 374-1. Protective gloves must be selected according to the function of the industrial installation – the other chemicals being handled, whether physical protection is required, and the degree of dexterity required. The selection of gloves must take into account the extent and duration of use at the work station.

Wear safety spectacles, goggles, or a face shield, according to the task.

Emergency equipment: Ensure that an eye-wash fountain, a safety shower and a first-aid box are readily available.

Hygiene measures: Use clean and correctly maintained personal protective equipment. Keep personal protective equipment in a clean place, away from the work area. Always wash hands immediately after handling the product, and once again before leaving the workplace. Do not eat or drink in the workplace.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable at ambient temperature and under normal conditions of use.

Conditions to avoid: High temperatures. Decomposes above 200°C.

Materials to avoid: Reacts with alkalis and caustic products with the release of heat. Reacts with oxidizing materials.

Hazardous decomposition products: After vaporization: on combustion or thermal decomposition (pyrolysis) corrosive vapours (CO + CO2) (phosphorus oxides).  Above 200°C releases Phosphine.  The phosphine will burn on to phosphorus pentoxide unless there is insufficient fresh air.

Further information: Aqueous solution attacks base metals, can develop highly flammable gas (hydrogen) which generates fire or explosion hazards.

Disposal considerations

RESIDUES FROM PRODUCT

Do NOT dispose of with domestic waste. Do not allow the product to be released into the environment.

Destruction/Disposal: Consult the manufacturer or supplier for information regarding recovery and recycling of the product. Dispose of in accordance with relevant local regulations. Must undergo physico-chemical treatment prior to disposal.

Decontamination/cleaning : Wash with water. Allow it to drain thoroughly. If required neutralize contaminated cleaning water prior to disposal (pH 5.5 to 8.5).

Destruction/Disposal: Reuse or recycle following decontamination.

NOTE: The user's attention is drawn to the possible existence of local regulations regarding disposal.
