Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Three different, reliable and relevant studies are available on acute mortality of fish. Toxicity was evaluated in the rainbow trout and in fathead minnow. Both were used to evaluate the toxicity towards Therminol 88, the toxicity towards Therminol 75 was only evaluated for fathead minnows. Before the definitive studies, range finder tests were performed. All studies were performed with high test concentration (mg-range) and precipitation was reported in these studies. Based on visual observations the maximum solubility of the test substance is 0.75 mg/l for Therminol 75 according to the authors.

The results indicate clearly that rainbow trout is more sensitive towards the chemical in comparison to fathead minnow. The EC50 values for Pimephalis promelas were above the highest nominal test concentration in both cases >1000 mg/L. Effect values for this species are therefore far above the solubility of the test substance. The EC50 value for Salmo gairdneri - determined in the 'definitive test' was 27 mg/L, the NOEC (96h) was 10 mg/L. The latter study was therefore also selected as key study.
