Additional information

The registered substance is an ionic substance, has a log Pow of < 3 and is inherently biodegradable. Accumulation in soil organisms and persistence in soil compartment are therefore very unlikely. The substance has a low ecotoxicity since the aquatic EC50/LC50 for algae, daphnia and fish are >> 1 mg/L. Based on that information, the substance is in the terrestrial “hazard category 3” according to guidance R.7c Table R.7.11—2 (2017).


 


Based on the available data, a PNEC value for soil can be calculated using the PNEC freshwater and the equilibrium partitioning method. In addition, information from a long-term study was added as supporting read across information. Read across is considered relevant and reliable since the aquatic ecotoxicity for the target substance is much lower than the corresponding ecotoxicity of the source substance.


 


The EPM in combination with the applied additional safety factor of 10 (as recommended for "hazard catgeory 3" substances) resulted in a PNEC soil value (= PNECscreen) more conservative than the PNEC soil value calculated with the long-term study. As a result, the risk assessment was based on the PNECscreen. Based on this approach, the registered substance is not expected to cause a risk to terrestrial organisms ([PEC x 10/ PNECscreen] < 1) and consequently terrestrial toxicity tests are not needed for the registered substance.
