Aluminium trilactate is reported to be a white solid powder at 20°C and 1013 hPa.

The melting point of Aluminium trilactate measured via a light-sensitive cell was determined to be >300°C.

According to REACH Regulation (Annex VII, 7.3, column II) the study on the boiling point does not need to be conducted if the melting point of the solid material is >300°C. The melting point of Aluminium trilactate was determined to be >300°C and thus fulfilling this requirement.

The experimentally determined density of the test substance is reported to be 1.388 g/cm³.

 

The mean particle size of Aluminium trilactate is reported to be 107.2 µm (10th percentile = 12.76 µm, median = 77.13 µm, 90th percentile 229.4 µm). The particle size distribution was: <5 µm: 4.96%, <10 µm: 8.31%, <45 µm: 31.8%.

 

According to REACH Regulation (Annex VII, 7.5, column II) the study on vapour pressure does not need to be done if the melting point of the solid material is >300°C. The melting point of Aluminium trilactate was determined to be >300°C and thus fulfilling this requirement.

 

The n-octanol/water partition coefficient (log Kow) of Aluminium trilactate was found to lie in the range between -2.43 and -1.90 (at 25°C; pH of test solutions not reported).

 

The water solubility of Aluminium trilactate determined by the quinolin-8-olate spectrophotometric method is reported to be 0.7 mol/dm³ (206 g/L) at 25°C (pH 2.9 saturated solution).

 

According to REACH Regulation (Annex VII, column 2, 7.6), the study on surface tension has only to be conducted if based on the structure of the substance surface-active properties are to be expected. The test substance does not contain any chemical groups indicating surface-active properties.

 

According to REACH regulation (Annex XI, 1.), a test for determination of the flash point is scientifically not necessary, because the flash point refers to liquids (Guidance in information requirement and chemical safety assessment, chapter R.7b). The test item is a solid at ambient temperature. Therefore determination of the flash point is not required.

 

Aluminium trilactate is considered not self-ignitable and non flammable.

 

According to REACH Regulation (Annex VII, 7.11, column 2), the study on explosiveness needs not to be done if the test substance does not contain chemical groups indicating explosive properties.

 

According to REACH Regulation (Annex VII, 7.13, column 2), testing of oxidising properties needs not to be conducted as the test substance does not contain any structural groups known to be correlated with a tendency to react exothermically with combustible material.

 

According to REACH Annex IX, 7.15, column 1, a study on stability in organic solvents is only required if stability of the substance is considered to be critical. Aluminium trilactate is not used in organic solvents.

 

The dissociation constants (pKa) of the Al(III) ion and Lactic acid are reported to be 5.0 and 3.86 at 25°C, respectively.

 

According to REACH regulation Annex IX, 7.17, column 1, a study on viscosity is only required for liquids. Aluminium trilactate is a solid powder at ambient temperature.
