First-aid measures

Description of necessary first-aid measures

General information:

Pay attention to self-protection. Move out of dangerous area. Remove contaminated or soaked clothing immediately and dispose of safely.

Inhalation:

If breathing difficulties occur (e.g. severe continual coughing): Keep patient half sitting with upper body raised. Formation of a toxic lung edema is possible if product continues to be inhaled despite acute irritative effect (e.g. if it is not possible to leave the danger area). Move to fresh air. Possible discomfort: severe irritation of mucous lining (nose, throat, eyes), cough, sneezing, flow of tears Symptoms may occur with delay. If unconscious, place in recovery position and seek medical advice. Get medical attention immediately.

Skin Contact:

Possible signs of poisoning: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, seizures, unconciousness, respiratory disturbance, cessation of breathing, cardiac arrest.

Get medical attention immediately. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water. Keep patient warm and at rest. Do not leave the victim unattended. For breathing difficulties, oxygen may be necessary. Employ artificial respiration if breathing ceases. Place patients who are unconscious but breathing in the stabilized lateral position.

Eye contact:

Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water keeping eyelid open. Continue rinsing process with eye rinsing solution. Protect unharmed eye. Call ambulance. (keyword: chemical burn) Immediate further treatmentinophthalmic hospital/ by opthalmologist.

Ingestion:

Possible signs of poisoning: headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, seizures, unconciousness, respiratory disturbance, cessation of breathing, cardiac arrest.

Notify ambulance immediately (keyword: cyanide). Do NOT induce vomiting. If swallowed, rinse mouth with water (only if the person is conscious). Keep patient warm and at rest. Do not leave the victim unattended. For breathing difficulties, oxygen may be necessary. Employ artificial respiration if breathing ceases. Place patients who are unconscious but breathing in the stabilized lateral position.

Symptoms: No data available.

Hazards: No data available.

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment:

Based on animal toxicological experiments, the following effects will have to be assumed: hydrocyanic acid poisoning, chemical burn Specific therapy/antidote treatment as for cyanide. Observe national methods of treatment. Instructions on the attached additional information sheets are to be observed. Further treatment: Following eye contact: Therapy as for chemical burn. Following inhalation: Prophylaxis of a toxical lung oedema with inhalative steroids (Dexamethasone aerosol dosing spray, f.ex. auxilosone). Alleviation of throat irritation with antitussive cough mixture (hydrocodon hydrogen tartrate, e.g. Dicodid).

Advice for firefighters

Special fire fighting procedures:

Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water. Contaminated fire-extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations issued by the appropriate local authorities. Fire residues should be disposed of in accordance with the regulations.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

In the case of fire, wear respiratory protective equipment independent of surrounding air and chemical protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Bring persons in safety. Keep persons at a distance and stay on the weather side. As a rule, work only with respiratory protective equipment. Avoid contact with the following substances / substance categories: Hydro-cyanic acid Avoid contact with acroleine. Keep unauthorized personnel away. Cover with: special quenching foam. When heated, formation of explosive vapour/air mixtures.

For non-emergency personnel: No data available.

For emergency responders: No data available.

Environmental Precautions:

Do not allow substance to enter soil, bodies of water or sewage canals. Cover over drainage system. Avoid penetration into drainage system or in rooms situated at a lower level because of danger of explosion.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up:

Densify gases/fumes produced with water. Ensure there are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Technical measures (e.g. Local and general ventilation):

The substance must be handled under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with Article 17/18 of the REACH regulation.Refill and handle product only in closed system. Leak detection recommended Ensure suitable suction/aeration at the work place and with operational machinery. Container may be opened only under exhaust ventilation hood. Earthing of equipment. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Do not add wastewater to a biological wastewater treatment plant Minimization of emissions by means of suitable technical measures such as flanges and valves with low leakage rates, recirculation of vapours. All precautionary measures indicated have to be observed.

Safe handling advice:

All precautionary measures indicated have to be observed. If workplace exposure limits are exceeded and/or larger amounts are released (leakage, spilling, dust) the indicated respiratory protection should be used. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Risk assessment and risk monitoring of all work places required. Health, Safety and Emergency Management System recommended. Regular safety training is a must. Written approval necessary in case of non-routine jobs, e.g. maintenance activities.Use only permissible in closed systems. Transfer and handle product in closed systems only. Ensure that apparatus and pipelines are free from leaks. Do not ventilate into the open. Suitable loading and unloading device required. The product should only be handled by trained personnel. For personal protection see section 8. Use only explosion-proof equipment. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Empty, clean and dry system / system components completely before maintenance and repair work is done. Written approval necessary in case of non-routine jobs, e.g. maintenance activities. Please note BG leaflet BGI 569: Hydrocyanic acid/cyanide when at work.

Contact avoidance measures:       No data available.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Safe storage conditions:

Suitable materials are: Stainless steel. 1.4571Keep in inert gas. Store in the original receptable, keeping this tightly sealed, under cool and dry conditions. Avoid sun rays. Storage capability limited; dependent on storage temperature. Store under lock and key or in a way that only skilled persons have access to it. well ventilated. Monitoring of ambient air necessary. For transport, storage and tank installations only use suitable materials.COMBUSTIBLE. Formation of flammable or explosive vapour/air mixtures possible. Caution - electrostatic charge may occur. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Risk of explosion. Use water spray to cool unopened containers. Water used to extinguish fire should not enter drainage systems, soil or stretches of water. Contaminated fire-extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with the regulations issued by the appropriate local authorities. Ensure there are sufficient retaining facilities for water used to extinguish fire. Fire residues should be disposed of in accordance with the regulations.Do not store together with: acids and alcaline solutions. Storage and handling in accordance with German Dangerous Substances Regulations (GefStoffV).
