When the test substance was heated, the first time there was no obvious change. Because of this, this test was repeated at individual temperatures for seperate capillaries rather than heating one capillary over the entire range (60 -300 degrees C). At about 235 to 240 degrees C, it was observed that the sample collapsed and chaged from white to colorless. The sample never liquified.

Conclusions:
Zinc acrylate did not melt under the testing conditions. It underwent homopolymerization at approximately 235 to 240 degrees centigrade, a phenomenon known to occur for these type of chemicals.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to testing Guideline OPPTS 830.7200 to determine the melting of zinc acrylate. Under the testing conditions, the appearance of solid zinc acrylate changed from white to colourless but did not liquify. Due to homopolymerisation of the substance at 235 to 240 degrees centigrade, a melting point could not be determined (Holyoke, 2003).
