Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, the skin sensitisation study does not need to be conducted as the substance is corrosive. Due to the sulphuric acid related corrosivenes of target compound titanium oxide sulphate, no valid data for the classification of skin sensitising potential are available. No reports on skin sensitisation of humans after occupational exposure are available. Moreover, titanium dioxide, which would be the finally resulting stable compound after completion of the hydrolysis reaction, clearly is not a sensitizer. Based on these consideration, target chemical titanium oxide sulphate is being assessed as not sensitising.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
The sensitisation potential of titanium oxide sulphate is not accessible due to release of sulphuric acid when in contact with wet material.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The sensitising potential of titanium oxide sulphate is not accessible due to sulphuric acid related corrosivity when in contact with wet material. Neither target substance titanium oxide sulphate, nor final hydrolysis product titanium dioxide are considered to be sensitizers, thus no classification according to CLP/GHS or DSD.
